ITHACA N.Y.(WENY)-- The Community Foundation of Tompkins County has been around since 2000 and they have no plans on going anywhere, especially if they keep receiving donations like their most recent one. For the second year in a row, an anonymous donor has made a large contribution to the Community Foundation of Tompkins County.

"We really were very  excited to work with this donor who wishes to remain anonymous but has made a gift in a very specific kind of way. This donor has designated a $100,000.00 gift, it was a charitable distribution from her IRA," says George Ferrari, CEO of Community Foundation for Tompkins County,"

Her generous donation was split between two major sectors. First  the Tompkins Today and Tomorrow fund, which supports a number of local organizations.

"One of our largest funds, supports local public libraries, that's the Bernard and Shirley Rosen fund and we have granted our traditionally 150 thousand dollars to local public libraries an in small communities these are important assets for how you build social capital, how you access information, how they come together to address needs in their community," says Ferrari

And the other half went to the Community Foundations operations. Officials say the financial help from the mystery beneficiary is more than just the number on the check.

"The amount is not nearly as important as the consistency, the loyalty and the connection and relationship with the ways that this donor has supported us. And she very much wants donors to understand that a community foundation is a unique place to understand what the needs are in the community and to develop ways of addressing those needs in terms of grant making and community impact ," Says Ferrari

Leaders with the Community Foundation of Tompkins County say they appreciate donations of any amount. To make a donation to the Community Foundation of Tompkins County, click here
